About the brand
Valentino SpA is an Italian fashion house founded by Valentino Garavani. Showing an aptitude for fashion early on, Garavani, known more famously as Valentino, apprenticed under his aunt as well as a local fashion designer before formally studying in both Milan and Paris. Starting his career in 1950 at age 18 Valentino worked with the likes of Jacques Fath, Balenciaga, Jean Desses and Guy Laroche before returning to Italy in 1959 to set up his own shop. Applying the lessons he learned in Paris, Valentino modeled his salon and fashions to resemble that of the grand houses of fashion in Paris. He made his international debut in 1962 and soon became a staple for many of world’s fashionable class. Regarded by many as the embodiment of Italian couture with his empire spanning over 70 countries, Valentino has been able to live up to this reputation—opulent and flamboyant his designs have reflected his personal style. Known for his red dresses, the bright shade used in many of his creations is often regarded as “Valentino red”.
