When someone mentions edible notes in perfumery, my mind instantly wanders off to the sultry scent of vanilla, smooth caramel, whipped cream, chocolate, or the tingly bitter cocoa. Although technically speaking, citruses are also edible. So, why am I surprised that cucumber is the hottest perfume trend this summer? It’s refreshing, juicy, and has that earthy scent that makes me crave Greek salad as I write these lines.
Sea and everything aquatic is a must-have for this and every other summer, simply because of their time-traveling properties: When we smell these perfumes in December, almost instantly we curse the wind, snow, and everything that has the word winter in it.
So, just to keep you in the loop and follow the hottest trends in perfumery, I am going to list my favorite cucumber perfumes that worship this ingredient as much as I do.
Table of Contents
Happy Heart by Clinique
This rich chypre floral is as happy as Pharrell Williams’s song! Water hyacinth gives it that sun-is-here-nothing-can-go-wrong feeling, while cucumber and mandarin orange imbue it with a city-girl vibe.
Be Delicious by DKNY
If it’s summer on your skin and in your pocket, you’re after, look no further than Be Delicious by DKNY. It is no entry-level fresh, juicy, simple cucumber perfume. Fruits laced with fresh cucumber and happily ever after married with spring flower blossoms. Sweetness, depth, and sexiness guaranteed. This staple of spring/summer perfumes has become DKNY’s fragrant bread and butter that gets along beautifully with every style, event, and mood!
Cacti by Regime des Fleurs
An ordinary scent this is not: Cacti exudes crispness while adding a tang of tannic black tea that appeals to fans of unisex fragrances. The fragrance feels instantly familiar with herbaceous aloe vera, aquatic note, and cucumber, but the Earl Grey and jasmine combo makes this fragrance stand out. A green yet intense cucumber perfume with subtle aromatic features, Regime des Fleurs’s Cacti really drives home the minimalist vibe and freshness of crisp cotton sheets.
Roses on Ice by Kilian
A fresh, summery, yet utterly sophisticated 2024 scent? We have it. Kilian Hennessy asked master perfumer Frank Voelkl to recreate his wife’s favorite drink, so maybe Love on the Rocks would’ve been a more suitable name. This is all about dry gin and cucumber stirred, not shaken with a whisper of rose water thrown in for good measure. It’s clean, it’s refreshing, and 100% unisex. The rose is a light touch, like a wisp on the skin, with the gin and cucumber taking center stage. It’s definitely not a rose bomb like many perfumes spotlighting roses, but that’s what we love about Roses on Ice – the rose peeks through the gin and tonic every now and then, a delightful surprise. We adore this scent for summer, and it’ll be getting a lot of love from us these next few months.
