We’re always updating the Scentbird vanity, and with our latest offering – body wash and scrub – we’ve introduced unique formulas across the line. When we first began brainstorming the concept, we knew what we didn’t want to do: launch a range of products that shared the same benefits, with only the fragrance notes changing. Instead, we wanted to offer a more complete shower routine, one that accounts for day-to-day use as well as those times you’re looking for a deeper clean. We experimented with different scrubbing agents and scent profiles to see how they worked together.
Here, we sat down with Kim-Davy Hoeu, Director of Product Innovation, to talk all things bath, beauty and what’s to come…
- What are the key textures in the scrubs?
Each product texture is tied to a specific concept in synergy with the fragrance names/combination. For example, our Rose & Prosecco Airy Body Polish is extremely light and seems to bubble and foam on contact with water, which ties into the prosecco fragrance notes. Similarly, we developed our Melting Shower Scrub (in Mango & Kiwi) to sink into skin quickly and seamlessly to achieve a melting sensation.
The intersection of fragrance and texture means that each product is designed to serve a specific purpose. When you look at other fragrance-driven brands producing shower collections, the products often feature the same texture with different scents. We wanted to offer our subscribers more than a scent experience by carefully interweaving the two.
We’ve also added an extra boost with texture, in that all of the formulas are very visually appealing. There’s definitely a love ‘at first sight’ aspect to each collection.
- Which shower products should we be using: how often and why?
Working with different textures and concepts, means we can offer new solutions – from varying levels of exfoliation to moisturizing intensity. For instance, our Coconut & Sugar Nourishing Sugar Scrub is best for a deeper cleanse, while the Rose & Prosecco Airy Body Polish has a gentler touch, better for everyday use.
Each of the products are named after their key ingredients, which allowed us to create that full-circle effect throughout the entire. So, using our Airy Body Polish as an example: the wash contains Rose Water to help tone, condition and protect skin, as well as two natural scrubbing particles: Exfoliating Organic Red Rice Powder – which sloughs away dead skin cells – and Grape Seed Extract powder – which gently buffs – so the overall formula works its magic, nourishing skin and leaving it soft and supple.
- Are these products aimed at a specific demographic?
Scentbird’s bath + body collections can be used for all age ranges – and both genders. Since our products are mainly sold online, millennials tend to make up most of our audience so far. We partner with various social media influencers to help explain and highlight different benefits in our procuts.
With the Airy Body Polish we focused on rose, which is well-known for its soothing benefits and fragrance notes, and added prosecco, to introduce a bubbly, playful and celebratory vibe. As we discussed earlier, all of key notes play into the texture properties as well. Rose & Prosecco features an expectedly bright floral with a dash of prosecco that “bubbles” when combined with water.
Another example would be our Earl Grey & Blackberry Foaming Shower Cream, which products a rich and creamy lather that is great for a pampering cleansing experience.
Scentbird’s bath + body collections will be updated regularly throughout 2018. Stay tuned! Follow us on Instagram @Scentbird for even more info and behind-the-scenes updates.
