CBD is currently one term tossed around in conversation more often than the word “literally” or references to the lyrics of “Old Town Road.” While the masses continue to sing its praises (to the tune of the aforementioned song, probably) for helping with sleep, health issues, and even anxiety, one question remains — what does it do, exactly?
Here, we break down your CBD FAQs. Keep reading to get clarity on the wonder oil, and how to tell if it’s right for you.

What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidol, is a compound derived from the hemp plant. CBD interacts with receptors in your body called the endocannabinoid system, which plays a part in regulating things like mood, appetite, pain, and memory.
There are two different kinds of endocannabinoid receptors in your body — CB1, and CB2. CB1 receptors can be found in your brain and are ruled by neurotransmitters that control hunger, motivation, and pleasure. CB2 receptors lie on the outside of your brain, as well as on your white blood cells, and throughout the rest of your body. CBD indirectly inhibits the CB1 receptors, which in turn helps to impact your mood and the way you feel. When CBD interacts with your CB2 receptors, it helps your body to reach a stable equilibrium of the endocannabinoid system, reducing inflammation and providing pain relief.
So, will it get me high?
In short, no.
Fun fact: The hemp plant has over 100 cannabinoids, but contains 0.3% or less THC. Marijuana, on the other hand, has 0.3% or more THC, which is the cannabinoid that creates that altered state associated with being high. Hemp-derived CBD is what helps restore calm, balanced feelings without getting weird.
Who should use CBD?
If you need help managing your sleep schedule, taking the edge off when you’re feeling anxious, want something to aid with muscle pains and cramps, want to improve your focus, or simply want to see how your overall mood can be “better” with CBD, then you’re a good candidate to try CBD.
How can I use CBD?
Using a CBD tincture that you take orally is the easiest way — simply place half to a full dropper under your tongue, hold it for about 30 seconds, then swallow. You can also place a full dropper into your favorite beverage and consume the CBD that way. For any topical aches and pains, put a few drops of CBD oil into your palm and apply it directly to the affected area.
How often should I use CBD?
We recommend using CBD one to two times a day to promote a sense of calmness and focus in the morning, and at night to encourage a chill atmosphere and promote better sleep.
