#Chemical Exfoliants
For those new to the game, chemical exfoliants are non-abrasive salves that lift off the cell build up and unclog the pores to reveal a brighter, smoother complexion. Chemical exfoliants use gentle acids to dissolve impurities, penetrating deep into the skin’s layers to work on the issues from within.
The most common types of acids used in skincare products are AHAs, short for alpha hydroxy acids and BHAs, which stands for beta hydroxy acids. The difference between the two? They address different skin issues, depending on your skin type.
AHAs based products are recommended for dry or sun-damaged skin as they exfoliate the skin surface drawing in moisture to keep your face hydrated. BHA is recommended for oily and sensitive skin. Due to its ability to penetrate deep into pores (unlike AHAs), BHAs loosens the buildup, eliminating excess oil as well as blackheads. BHAs also have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects, making it an ace for acne or rosacea-prone skin.
#Physical Exfoliants
These are composed of different types of exfoliating particles, and they work by scrubbing away the dead skin and debris that’s on the surface of the skin. Exfoliation is important because it releases excess toxins that are trapped in the cell buildup and allows your skin to breathe. Once the exfoliation is complete, your skin will be able to absorb beneficial properties of the skincare products quicker, faster and more efficiently.
The two treatments actually complement each other if used correctly, optimizing cell turnover to diminish lines, build collagen, and improve skin tone. Scroll down to see the chemical peels and physical exfoliants we have in our Scentbird skincare catalog:

GLOW RECIPE Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask
You know your AHAs and BHAs, but this mask is all about PHAs. It stands for Polyhydroxy acids, and unlike the usual suspects, the aforementioned acids, PHAs have larger molecular weight and decreased ability to penetrate the skin. Which means it has slower insertion rates and provides much gentler exfoliation actions. Glow Recipe’s Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask also includes avocado and manuka honey to deeply moisturize dry, dull skin overnight.
